Skydiving in Perris

About a year ago, I escaped to Palm Springs for a few days to go skydiving with my girlfriend Jessica. When we were at SkyDivePerris, we noticed that some of the other women who were there to skydive were not wearing makeup because they did not want the intense wind to cause their make up run as they were free falling. Even our instructor asked us why we looked like we were ready for a fancy dinner or party! We were ready to go with some mascara, a dab of pink chapstick, a dash of blush and sunscreen of course. I love that I can look and feel great when I wake up. Whether it is skydiving, a day at the beach or a day at the pool it is easy to look ready for anything. Check out my skydiving video on Youtube.  It was a blast! Here is Jessica's skydiving video

Favorites Fridays: Concealer

Being in the beauty industry for so many years has helped a lot with staying up to date on what is new and hot in the make up world. Although I have my eyebrows tattooed I still use my eyebrow pencils to add a few hair strokes or to change my look for an evening and in the summer I prefer lighter colored brow pencils. I have my eyeliner tattooed but I really enjoy a cream or gel eyeliner to wear on top for a fiercer look. Who doesn't love lip gloss? I have my lips tattooed and I love a clear or pinkish gloss or a lipstick for work or for when I am going out. Permanent makeup does not replace make up, it enhances what you already have for a natural look.

I love blushes and mascaras, eyeshadows and lipsticks, foundation and tinted moisturizers but not everyday. One product I do use on a daily basis is concealer. There is nothing like a great concealer, and I have a fabulous one. I have been using Estee Lauder's Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer for years now and after trying all different brands, nothing compares to this amazing stuff! I usually wear it under my eyes and if my eyes are watery (due to allergies or contacts etc) the concealer doesn't run down my cheeks! It does not say waterproof but it really is. It is magic. And for under $20 you can buy your own magic!

Skinny Jeans

It has been the hottest fashion trend for the past few years and even back in the day, but can this fashion trend actually be bad for your health? One doctor says, “Yes!” Skinny jeans, tight belts, and tight body shaping garments are a huge problem, and there is a solution. Today, women are not the only targets; men are being affected as well. According to Dr. Rick Henricksen from the University of Utah Healthcare, they could be damaging your nerves.

Dr. Henricksen says, “If you wear tight clothing, especially tight belts around your waist, you can get compression of the lateral cutaneous nerve and that causes numbness and tingling in the upper thighs.” These “go to” items in our closets can be causing digestive and even breathing problems as well!

He does say that there is a cure! You guessed it! Try wearing jeans that allow you to breath, loosening them up and losing some weight! Even grabbing some jeans with a bit of spandex will help. How do you know if your jeans are harming you? Experiencing a tingling feeling or numbness feeling is your cue!

Fabulous Fillers

The time has come to renew my fabulous fillers. Although I bruised for about a week, it was certainly worth turning the beauty clock back at least 10 years! It is so funny because when I am in my San Francisco office, clients and strangers think I have been abused, whereas when I'm at my Beverly Hills office, clients and strangers ask who my doctor is!

Before you book an appointment for any kind of fillers, injections, botox or anything of the sort, please make sure you have done research on the product or procedure you are desiring, as well as the doctor or nurse who will be performing the injections. A little research never hurt anyone!

Forget the Foundation... Grab the Tinted Moisturizer!

With the first official day of Summer just around the corner, the sun is finally starting to make an appearance... finally! I love the natural look of sun kissed skin. It is that time of year when your heavy foundation gets thrown to the back of the make up drawer and tinted moisturizer takes its place in your make up routine. All you need is some sunscreen, mascara, and a tinted or clear lip-gloss and you are ready to go! To doll up for the evening, keep some eyeliner in your purse to put your look together.  The advantages of tinted moisturizer can outweigh the disadvantages depending on how much face make up you wear on a day to day basis. A good tinted moisturizer is lightweight and most give you some SPF to protect your skin. It provides two products in one and can come in various shades to match all skin tones. It is quick and great for your fresh summer look. Though it will most likely not cover blemishes like your regular foundation, it is still a great buy for your summer make up bag.

On another note, make sure that you are applying your sunscreen daily. Most women forget to cover their hands, neck and chest. Those places still see the sunshine! It is always a good idea to keep a small travel size bottle in your make up bag or purse to reapply in the afternoon. Take care of your skin and it will be good to you!

Yamashiro Farmers Market

I found a gem. I am very familiar with the Los Angeles area and Southern California. I have lived in the LA/Beverly Hills area for the past six years and discovered a new favorite hotspot: Yamashiro Farmers Market. Yamashiro is a restaurant which is located right above the Magic Castle. In the parking lot is a small farmers market with great live music, fresh veggies, fruits, fresh nutbutters, dips, nuts, dried fruits, cheeses, gourmet foods, samples and a fabulous view. My daughter, her husband and my niece and nephew have been going for the past few weeks, and I finally had a chance to join them. I can't wait to go back! Check out lacityfarm.org to see farmers market locations. They also have a list of their vendors!

For dinner we each had a few sliders at the Yamashiro Grill Tent (chicken, beef and pork) Delicious!

Our favorites & purchases:

try the lemon almonds, wasabi peanuts, and the honey pecans!

we bought the least spicy one because my daughter is a wimp when it comes to hot & spicy

brothers hummus
best artichoke dip, garlic dip and more!

my daughter loves their vegan goodies!

we bought & devoured:
The Three Amigos (Almond + Cashew + Peanut)
Cinnamon Vanilla Almond Butter
Vegan Salted Chocolate Peanut Butter

spinach bolani
cilantro pesto

Kale Chips (cheddar, chocolate coconut and jalapeno)

Stay Cool as a Cucumber this Summer!

Grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, beauty magazines, and iced drinks, head outside and enjoy the beautiful sunshine! I went to a friend’s house for a barbeque. We had a fabulous time sharing funny stories about when were kids. I laughed and I cried! At the party, she served a tasty and refreshing cucumber martini. When I asked her about the drink, she said that she uses cucumber for just about everything – not just for food. I’ve used cucumbers for a lot of different things but she showed me some new ways to use this versatile vegetable.

  • We both use “vegetables slices” on our puffy eyes. (Before I got my eyeliner tattooed my liner would run into my eyes, so be careful!)
  • I didn’t know that they were great for defogging the bathroom mirror after a hot shower. Just rub a slice on the mirror and it will also give off a wonderful aroma.
  • You can also use a cucumber for sunburns by placing slices on the burned area.
  • They’re a great snack in the afternoon when you get sleepy. They’re filled with vitamin B and have carbohydrates to give you energy.
I told my friend that I was amazed at what the lowly cucumber can do and she told me that the next time I was in town, she’d teach me about watermelons!

Cucumber Martini RecipeIngredients:
2 oz. Vodka (Grey Goose)
1/4 oz. Lemon Juice
2 slices Cucumber
3 pieces Mint
1/2 oz. Sugar Syrup
Mixing Instructions:
Muddle mint and a cucumber slice in a cocktail shaker.
Add other ingredients and ice.
Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with a slice of cucumber and a fresh mint sprig.
Enjoy!
